Technical Assistance:
Please provide the Department updates regarding your anticipated outdoor playground renovation.

Comments:
An unannounced Renewal inspection was conducted this date. A total of 71 children with 24 staff were onsite today. Observation of all 9 classrooms was made. In the infant classrooms, the staff had placed the children on their laps as books were read. In the 2A classroom the children were listening to "When Sophie Gets Angry" being read and staff talking about feelings. Children were observed making snowflakes out of felt fabric and sparkles. The completed projects were drying on the counter top as the children transitioned to other morning activities. Tables were observed being sanitized by staff as they prepared for lunch. Children in the 3C classroom was observed getting their coats, gloves and hats on to transition to the outside playground and expressed excitement over the morning snow that had fallen. Medication was onsite and reviewed. A total of 4 staff files, 5 children's records, infant daily logs and injury reports were reviewed. Some violations were found today and a corrective action was provided. This inspection occurred between 9:20am and 12:10pm. Thank you for your cooperation today. Standard #: 8VAC20-780-240-A
Description: Based on review of staff training, one staff did not obtain the Virginia Department of Education sponsored orientation course within 90 days of hire.
Evidence:
Staff #2 was hired on 05/20/2023. The 10 hour preservice training has not been completed.

Plan of Correction: The 10 hour preservice training will be completed by this staff.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-240-E
Description: Based on review of staff training, one staff did not received orientation training in first aid and CPR within 30 days of hire.
Evidence:
Staff #2 was hired on 05/30/2023. Staff #2 has not received orientation training in First Aid and CPR.

Plan of Correction: This staff will be enrolled in the next CPR/First Aid certification class.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A
Description: Based on observation of the center, one area was not maintained in an operable condition.
Evidence:
A cabinet in the 1C classroom which contains the step on receptacle for diaper disposal was missing a handle.

Plan of Correction: A work order will be made to have this cabinet repaired. The step on receptacle will be located in an area that allows staff to dispose of soiled diapers by a hands free method.

Description: Based on observation of one classroom, one infant was not placed on their back in a crib to sleep.
Evidence:
In the 1A classroom, Child #5 was asleep and was observed being placed on their side in a crib.

Plan of Correction: All staff will be reminded of the importance of placing an infant on their backs when placing them in cribs.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-E
Description: Based on review of medications, the center failed to follow their own procedures for administering medication.
Evidence:
A medication authorization located in the 3B classroom did not include the duration of the authorization.

Plan of Correction: The duration for this medication will be included in a new signed medication authorization.
