Comments:
A non-mandated monitoring inspection was conducted on December 12, 2023 from 12:50 P.M.-2:50 P.M. There were 20 children present, ranging in ages from five months to five years of age, with eight staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of six child records and six staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that all hazardous materials shall be kept in a locked location.

Evidence:
In the School Age area there was a bottle of bleach water in a closet that was not locked and the closet was standing open.

Plan of Correction: Staff locked the closet while the Licensing Inspector was on site. Staff will be reminded to keep all hazardous materials locked.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-450-D
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that when pillows are used they are covered with pillow cases.

Evidence:
1. In the Pre-K Classroom there were two children using pillows. The pillows were not covered with a pillowcase.
2. Staff #1 verified that the pillows did not have pillowcases on them.

Plan of Correction: If pillows will be used pillowcases will be provided. Staff will be reminded of the requirement regarding pillows.
