22.1 BACKGROUND CHECKS CODE; CARBON MONOXIDE

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm. There were 35 children in are being supervised by 3 staff. The children were observed participating in table-top activities. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of five child records and six staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-I
Description: Based on review of medication it was determined that not all procedures regarding prescription medication were followed. Evidence: The emergency medication on site for child A and child B did not have a written authorization from a parent or guardian.

Plan of Correction: Administration will request written authorization for medication forms from the parents of child A and child B.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-P
Description: Based on review of medication it was determined that medication was not picked up by a parent within 14 days after a written authorization for medication expires. Evidence: The medication on site for child C was accompanied by a written authorization for medication form which expired on 09/28/23.

Plan of Correction: Administration will request a new written authorization for medication form from the parents of child C or the medication will be sent home with the parents.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-540-E
Description: Based on observation and interviews it was determined that not all required components of the first aid kit were operable. Evidence: There were only three of the six required batteries on site to operate the required radio for the first aid kit.

Plan of Correction: Administration will purchase batteries for the radio.
