Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 1/8/2024 from 10:50 am-12:20 pm. There were 87 children supervised by 14 direct care staff. The physical plant, 8 children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in group play, circle time, tabletop activities, and eating snacks. Hand-washing procedures were also observed. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice. Thank you for your cooperation during this inspection. Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-500-A
Description: Based on observation of Classroom J, hand washing procedures were not followed.

Evidence: 5 out of 10 students were observed not washing their hands after eating a cupcake.

Plan of Correction: Reviewed hand washing procedures with staff.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-P
Description: Based on review of medications, the center did not ensure that when an authorization for a medication expires that the parent is notified to pick up the medication within 14 days or that any medications not picked up within 14 days after medication authorization expiration are disposed of by the center.

Evidence:
1. Two medications present at the center had expired authorizations.
2. Medications were not picked up and the authorizations were not renewed.
3. Child #2's authorization expired 12/29/2023 and Child #3's authorization expired 12/28/23.

Plan of Correction: Informed parents that we need updated medicine authorization forms.
