Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on January 12, 2024, from 9:40am-11:50am. At the time of entrance, ( 34 ) children were in care with (8 ) staff members present. The inspector reviewed 3 children?s records and 3 staff records. Children were observed engaged in group activities to include playdough, Zinga matching game and learning how to read a map by going on a scavenger hunt.. Medications were observed. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the violation notice.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-40-N
Description: Based on review and conversation, the center has not developed written playground safety procedures, which addresses staff supervision and maintaining resilient surface.
Evidence: No written playground safety procedures were available to review.

Plan of Correction: Management will develop a written playground safety plan.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-240-B
Description: Based on review of staff record, there was no documentation that staff completed orientation training within seven days of assuming job responsibilities.
Evidence: Staff #1 date of hire 10/19/23 does not have documentation of completing orientation training. Staff #1 observed caring for children this date.

Plan of Correction: Management will have staff review and sign the orientation form.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-E
Description: Based on review of medication, the center has not followed their procedure for methods to prevent use of outdated medication.
Evidence: Medication for Child #1 is outdated. Benadryl expired 8/2023, EpiPen expired 10/2023.

Plan of Correction: Management will send home expired medication.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-H
Description: Based on review of children's medication, nonprescription medication was not in the original container with the direction label attached.
Evidence: Child #1 Children's allergy vials were found not in the original container and did not have directions attached.

Plan of Correction: Management will request the original container with directions for the non prescription medication.
