A monitoring inspection was conducted on February 8, 2024 with the center director and center staff. There were 20 children present, ranging in ages from 3 years to 5 years, with 4 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 5 child records and 2 staff records were reviewed. The children were waking from rest, eating afternoon snack, practicing phonics, and playing outdoors.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 22.1-289.035-B-4 Description: Based on review of four staff records, the center failed to ensure that out of state background checks were conducted as required. Evidence: Staff 1 (date of employment (10/30/2023) indicated on the sworn disclosure statement that they had lived outside the state of Virginia within the past five years. The search of the central registry was submitted for the other state on 11/09/2023. There was no documentation to support that the facility checked on the background check within 45 days as required. Plan of Correction: The facility followed up with the state and received the search of the central registry on 2/09/2024.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-550-E Description: Based on review of the emergency drill log, the facility failed to conduct a shelter in place drill a minimum of twice per year. Evidence: there was documentation of only one shelter in place drill in the past year. Plan of Correction: Two shelter in place drills will be conducted annually.
