22.1 EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION

A renewal inspection was conducted on March 4, 2024. The inspector was on site from approximately 3:00 pm until 4:45 pm. The director was present during the inspection. There were 64 children in care, ranging in ages from six years to eleven years, with six staff supervising. Children were divided into huddles according to grade level. Huddles rotated through activities that included soccer in the gym, making beaded brackets, coloring, blocks and games of chess. Children also had time outside.
The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of ten child records were reviewed. Seven staff records were reviewed remotely on 03/07/2024.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

1. The record of staff #2, employed 10/19/2021, did not contain documentation of the Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation course exceeding 90 calendar days from employment.
