An unannounced complaint inspection was conducted on 03/14/2024 from 12:30pm to 12:55pm as the result of a complaint received regarding playground areas and safety. The playground was observed, staff were interviewed, and documentation was reviewed. Based upon a preponderance of evidence, the complaint was determined to be not valid. There was 1 violation written unrelated to the complaint. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-80-A Complaint related: No Description: Based on review of the written attendance record and interview with staff, the center did not ensure they maintained a written record of daily attendance for each group of children documenting the arrival and departure of each child in care as it occurs.
Evidence: During inspection on the playground, there were 57 children present, but the written record reflected there were 43 children present.Plan of Correction: When the inspector was present we retook the attendance to verify the amount of students present and update the roster.
After the inspection, we spoke with the staff and have implemented a more effective way of taking role call from the time students line up for recess to the time they are outside. A staff member will also be responsible to take attendance and update the students present during recess.
