An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on March 20, 2024 between the hours of 1:45pm-2:45pm. There were a total of 46 children with four staff members present. Children were observed engaged in group activities and outdoor play time. A selection of staff and children records and other documents were reviewed. The physical space, emergency supplies, evacuation drills, attendance records, and the Emergency Preparedness Plan were reviewed. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the violation notice. Standard #: 8VAC20-780-240-A Description: Based on record review and interview, the Virginia Department of Education sponsored orientation course was not completed within 90 calendar days of employment.
Evidence:
1. Staff #1's record (Date of hire-09/06/2023) did not contain documentation of a completed Virginia Department of Education sponsored orientation course.
2. Staff #2's record (Date of hire-08/27/2023) did not contain documentation of a completed Virginia Department of Education sponsored orientation course.
3. Staff #3's record (Date of hire-08/23/2023) did not contain documentation of a completed Virginia Department of Education sponsored orientation course.
4. Staff #4 confirmed that the orientation course was not completed by Staff #1, Staff #2, and Staff #3.Plan of Correction: The staff members will complete the orientation course over the next two weeks.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-550-D Description: Based on documentation review and interview, the center did not implement a monthly practice evacuation drill.
Evidence:
1. An emergency evacuation drill was not conducted for the months of December and January.
2. Staff #4 confirmed that an emergency evacuation drill was not conducted for the months of December and January.Plan of Correction: Two additional emergency evacuation drills will be conducted to make up for the two months missed. The center will ensure that there will be monthly emergency evacuation drills.
