The Inspector reviewed 5 children?s records and 5 staff records. The Inspector observed the interaction of staff and children throughout the inspection. Children were observed nap, handwashing, diapering, and parent pick up. First aid kits and emergency preparedness documents were observed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliances with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. The violations were discussed with the director at the exit interview.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A

2. Staff members confirmed that the cords were hanging and in reach of children.

Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: Staff immediately attended to the cords to ensure that they were no longer hanging and in reach of children. Director will remind staff during the next staff meeting to ensure that all cords are securely stored and not in reach of children in care.

2. Staff and Director confirmed that the cots were not 12 inches apart from each other.

Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: Staff will ensure that all occupied cots are 12 inches apart from each other during naptime.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-L
Description: Based on observation and interview, it was determined that the center did not ensure that medication shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
1. There was a bottle of children?s acetaminophen on the counter of the 2 year old classroom that was unlocked and accessible to children.
2. Assistant director confirmed that the medication was unlocked and accessible to children.

Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: The assistant director took the medication and immediately locked the medication. Staff will ensure that all medications are locked and inaccessible to children in care.
