8VAC20-790 Subsidy Program Vendor Requirements for Family Day Homes

A subsidy health and safety inspection was initiated on 09/11/2023 and concluded on 09/11/2023. There was 1 child present, age 4 years, with one staff. The Inspector reviewed two child?s records and one staff?s records. The physical plant was observed and the provider was interviewed regarding policies and procedures.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

Standard #: 8VAC20-790-430-A-1 Description: Based on review of documentation and interview, the vendor did not ensure that evacuation procedures were practiced at least monthly.
Evidence:
1. Documentation of evacuation drills only had documentation of one fire drill completed in August 2022. There were no other evacuation drills completed for the rest of the year.
2. The vendor confirmed that no evacuation drills other than the one in August 2022 had been completed.Plan of Correction: I will begin to do the fire drills every month and get a new form for the new year.
Standard #: 8VAC20-790-430-A-2 Description: Based on review of documentation and interview, vendor did not ensure shelter-in-place procedures shall be practiced twice a year.
Evidence:
1. There was no documentation of any shelter-in-place drills completed in August 2022 to August 2023.
2. Vendor confirmed that there were no shelter-in-place drills completed from August 2022 to August 2023.Plan of Correction: I will make sure we do the two shelter-in-place drills especially when there is severe weather.
Standard #: 8VAC20-790-430-A-3 Description: Based on review of documentation and interview, vendor did not ensure lockdown procedures shall be practiced at least annually.
Evidence:
1. There was no documentation of an annual lockdown procedure practiced from August 2022 through August 2023.
2. The vendor confirmed that there was no lockdown procedure conducted.Plan of Correction: I will do a lockdown drill this year too.
