Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including
telephone contacts and interviews.

A complaint inspection was initiated on 10/18/2021 and concluded on 11/08/2021. A
complaint was received by the department regarding allegations in the
areas of supervision and mandated reporting. The person in-charge was contacted by telephone to conduct the virtual investigation.

The evidence gathered during the investigation supported the allegation of
non-compliance with standards or law and a violation was issued.

Violations:
Standard #: 63.2(17)-1716-A-5-c
Complaint related: No
Description: Based on interviews, the center did not ensure staff report suspected child abuse or neglect of a child immediately to the local department of the county or city wherein the child resides or wherein the abuse or neglect is believed to have occurred or to the Department's toll-free child abuse and neglect hotline.
Evidence:
1. Staff #1 stated that they suspected that a child may have been abused and reported the suspected abuse to the director. Staff #1 did not report to to the local department of the county or city wherein the child resides or wherein the abuse or neglect is believed to have occurred or to the Department's toll-free child abuse and neglect hotline. The director did not report the matter to the local department. Staff #1 stated that they did not get child abuse and neglect training when they were initially hired and was unaware of the mandated reporter requirement.
2. Staff #5 stated that Staff #1 reported suspected child abuse to them, but never reported to the local Child Protective Services.

Plan of Correction: These are actions that we will be taking to prevent the violation that we have received. We will start making sure all staff members to be trained the right way so that they are knowledgeable on child abuse and what steps to take if they ever suspect any kind of child abuse or neglect. We will make sure upon hiring if they have no training on child abuse and what precautions to take, they will have to take an online or in person class. We will make sure every staff member takes a class yearly so they are up to date on new guidelines and precautions. Here at the center, I will have our local Social Services phone number and the Virginia CPS hotline number out and visible so staff will have easier access to calling these numbers. Greg Randall and I Megan are responsible for implementing each step. All staff here at the Childrens Center will be sure to know what to do if anything like this ever occurs again.
