Technical Assistance:
Today we discussed the importance of not allowing families to submit a medication authorization with paperwork if the medication is not being brought to the facility. It could appear that the medication should have been administered when the program does not have the medication available. A contingent plan for what to do in the case of a condition occurring that would normally necessitate medication should be submitted by the parent (ie: call 911 and parent).

Also discussed was how to handle situations where only one parent is involved with an enrolled child. If both parents are listed on the birth certificate, and there is no legal paperwork made available to the program stating otherwise, then the parent should be made aware that the other parent has a legal right to pick up or visit the child. Any known information about the "absent" parent should be completed on the form and information that is not known should be marked "unknown" on the child's enrollment paperwork.

A copy of the updated "Sworn Affirmation" form was emailed to the program director. This form asks if the individual has resided outside of the state of Virginia in the past 5 years. If an individual has resided outside of the state of Virginia within 5 years, additional out of state background checks are required.

MAT Training - Today we discussed care of a child who was recently diagnosed as Diabetic. A specific MAT Training in addition to the general MAT Training is required before staff may administer medications related to diabetes.
