Technical Assistance:
STANDARDS FOR WOOD BURNING STOVES: When in use, the stove must been at least 3 feet from any combustible items. Children may not be in the kitchen area when it is in use due to its proximity to the entrance gate. This means washing hands elsewhere. We also discussed smaller crafts items or other objects on the kitchen counters when younger children are present, and the potential of items on the kitchen counter falling into the children's play room side of the area. Consultation today included using the living room area only and not the kitchen for meals or washing hands.

An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today. There were 8 children present with the provider and three assistants for 23 points. I observed children playing outdoors, singing with a video and eating lunch. Renovations in the children's area make the room appear larger and roomier for physical activity. Children's record keeping was well-organized and complete. There were no children's medications on site today. If you have any questions, please contact me at

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-920
Description: A review of the posted menu found that the menu did not meet the licensing standards in two areas. Evidence: 1. The menu was not dated as required. 2. The menu did not reflect substitutions in food served. The menu indicated that today children were to have lentil soup but the children were observed eating hot dogs, strawberries and veggies.

Plan of Correction: I will make a new menu every week.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-940-A
Description: During today's inspection, it was observed that the small refrigerator in the kitchen holding some of the food used in meals had a thermometer today that did not register a temperature to prove that the refrigerator temperature was maintained at 40 degrees or below.

Plan of Correction: I will buy a new one.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-960-E
Description: During today's inspection, four infant bottles were observed to not be labeled with the child's name as required. Evidence: Of seven bottles viewed during the inspection, four did not have labels.

Plan of Correction: I will make sure they are all labeled.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-120-B
Description: During a review of staff records today, it was found that there was no documentation of two references as required for Assistant # 2 who began work 9/15. Evidence: The provider reported that she found out about the assistant through a friend and had a verbal reference, but there was nothing in writing today.

Plan of Correction: I will call for the two references today.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-240-A
Description: Some areas today was observed to not be maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: The outside of the wooden climbing structure was found to have some splintering areas.

Plan of Correction: It will be sanded.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-320-G
Description: A review of records today found that there was no current inspection available for the inspection of the wood burning stove and fireplace as required. Evidence: The most recent documentation available today was for an inspection two years ago. This was previously cited 11/14.

Plan of Correction: I will find the paper or call them for a new inspection.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-530-F
Description: During today's inspection, an infant was observed to be napping in a crib with soft bedding underneath the infant, between the crib sheet and the baby. (No soft bedding is permitted under and around infants.) Evidence: The infant was observed sleeping while laying on top of a folded-over comforter. The provider reported that the parents brought in the comforter for the infant.

Plan of Correction: Removed during inspection. It will be given back to the parents today.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-690-E
Description: During today's inspection, a soiled diaper was observed being disposed of in a way that did not ensure that other surfaces were not contaminated. Evidence: An assistant was observed taking a disposable diaper from the diapering area in the crib room to a trash can that was placed outside the back door.

Plan of Correction: The step-on trash can was moved back so it is within reach of the diapering surface.

A compliance history is in no way a rating for a facility.

The online compliance history includes only information after July 1, 2003. In addition, the online compliance history includes information regarding adverse actions that may be the subject of a pending appeal. An adverse action is not final until a provider has exhausted or waived all due process rights. For compliance history prior to July 1, 2003, or information regarding the status of pending adverse actions, please contact the Licensing Inspector listed in the facility's information. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not responsible for any errors in or omissions from the compliance history information.

Virginia Quality is a voluntary quality rating and improvement system for early care and education facilities serving children ages birth through pre-K.
