An exit interview was conducted with the provider to discuss the results of today's inspection.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today, March 23, 2017 to determine the provider's compliance with licensing standards. The inspection was initiated at 2:15pm and concluded at approximately 4:15pm. In attendance were 5 children totaling 15 points being supervised by the provider. Children were observed interacting with the provider and playing with toys. Children's books, toys, and equipment were inspected and found to be age appropriate and in operable condition. The children's restroom was inspected with the required supplies present. All rooms of the home used by children were inspected with no hazards found.
The family day home had the required postings displayed on the bulletin board upon entering the porch. The first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and emergency supplies were inspected. Two children's records and one provider record were inspected with the required information found. The following was also inspected: evacuation log, shelter-in-place drills, emergency preparedness plan, parent agreements, and other pertinent information. See attached notice for violations found on this day.
If you have any questions regarding today's inspection, contact the licensing inspector at (804) 662-9771.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-800-B Description: Based on the inspection of administrative records, the emergency preparedness was not reviewed annually. Evidence: During the inspection of the emergency preparedness plan dated 1/16/16, it was discovered the plan was not reviewed annually. Licensing standards requires the provider to review the emergency plan at least annually and update the plan as needed. Plan of Correction: Corrected on site.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-830-A Description: Based on the inspection of administrative records, the required practice evacuation drill was not conducted.
During the inspection of the monthly evacuation drills, it was discovered the evacuation drills for November 2016 and December 2016 were not conducted. Licensing standards require evacuation drills to be conducted monthly. The evacuation drills must be practiced in addition to the two required shelter-in-place drills.
Plan of Correction: Per provider: I understand they both must be conducted and not substituted for one another.
