An unannounced renewal inspection was completed on 10/26/2017. There were 10 children, ages 3 months-3 years, totaling 31 points in care during today's inspection. There was one provider and two assistants present during the inspection. The inspector reviewed 5 children's records, one provider record, 3 assistant record's and one household member's record during today's inspection. The Provider does not administer medication. The children were observed in the following activities: free choice play, story time, dancing, morning snack and lunch. Infants were observed being bottle fed and allowed to sleep on demand. Proper hand washing and table sanitization were observed. The inspector reviewed the emergency plans and emergency supplies. The inspector discussed the following with the Provider: new background check guidelines and annual trainings available to licensed programs. The inspector arrived at 9:15 a.m. and departed at 12:10 p.m. Thank you for your time today. If you have any questions, please contact Becky Forestier at 540-309-2835.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-320-B
Description: Based on observation, the provider failed to ensure that all unused electrical outlets accessible to children under 5 years of age have child-resistant protective covers. Evidence: The electrical outlet located beside the bathroom sink had one uncovered unused electrical outlet. The outlet was accessible to children using the bathroom and washing hands. All children in care are under the age of 5 years. The outlet cover had been removed for bottle warming and was replaced during the inspection.

Plan of Correction: All outlets will be kept covered.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-330-A
Description: Based on observation and discussion with the Provider, the Provider failed to ensure that a landline telephone was accessible during the family day home's hours of operation. Evidence: The Provider stated that they had the home phone/landline disconnected because she thought a cell phone was sufficient to meet the standard.

Plan of Correction: The Provider will have the landline turned back on.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-350-E
Description: Based on water temperature measurements, the provider failed to ensure that hot water taps available to children shall be maintained within a range of 105-120 degrees Fahrenheit. Evidence: The water temperature of the water from the bathroom sink used by the children measured 132.8 degrees Fahrenheit. The children were observed using this bathroom and washing hand with water from this sink.

Plan of Correction: The provider will order a water temperature regulator and have it installed to control the water temperature from the sink.

A compliance history is in no way a rating for a facility.

The online compliance history includes only information after July 1, 2003. In addition, the online compliance history includes information regarding adverse actions that may be the subject of a pending appeal. An adverse action is not final until a provider has exhausted or waived all due process rights. For compliance history prior to July 1, 2003, or information regarding the status of pending adverse actions, please contact the Licensing Inspector listed in the facility's information. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not responsible for any errors in or omissions from the compliance history information.

Virginia Quality is a voluntary quality rating and improvement system for early care and education facilities serving children ages birth through pre-K. Eligible child care facilities must be fully licensed, licensed exempt and a VDSS subsidy vendor, or a voluntary registered day home and a VDSS subsidy vendor. Only programs enrolled in Virginia Quality will display a rating. Virginia Quality contact information for your region is available at the following link Regional Contacts.
