Comments:
An unannounced code compliance inspection was initiated on 08/28/2023 and concluded on 08/28/2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:25 AM. There were 22 children present, ranging in ages from 2 to 4, with 4 staff. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, and procedures. A total of five children?s records and four staff?s records were reviewed.
The information gathered during the inspection determined no violations with applicable standards or law. No violations were issued.

Violations:
Standard #: 22.1-289.031-B-3
Description: Based on record review and interview, the center failed to establish and implement a procedure in which a daily health screening and exclusion of sick children by a person trained to perform such a screening is conducted daily.
Evidence:
1. A review of the four staff records indicated one staff member is trained in daily health screening.
2. The director stated the center did not have a procedure for daily health screening and exclusion of a sick child.

Plan of Correction: All staff will be trained in daily health screening and each staff member will be responsible for screening children as they arrive in their class each day.

Description: Based on an interview with the director, the center failed to implement a procedure to ensure that all areas of the premises accessible to children are free of obvious injury hazards.
Evidence:
1. The director stated the center's procedure is to ensure hazardous substances are kept out of reach of children and to check the rooms for hazards upon arrive each day.
2. In the 2's classroom a bottle of bathroom cleaner was on the floor in the corner of the children's restroom.

Plan of Correction: The cleaner was put on a high shelf out of reach of children during the inspection. All staff will be reminded to check each classroom upon arrival to ensure the rooms used by children are free off all hazards and to put all hazardous substances out of reach after each use.
