Technical Assistance:

Discussion of spray bottles with cleaning supplies in regard to best practices in their access to the children in care. Discussion of blind cords in regard to access to the children in care. Discussion of changing tables in regard to having children's materials and activities placed its surface. Discussion of classroom mats and the monitoring of wear.

Comments:

An in-person, annual code compliance inspection was initiated and concluded by a representative from the VDOE, Office of Child Care Health and Safety (Fairfax) on 01/24/2024, between the hours of 10:30 am through 2 pm. There were 80 present, ranging in toddler to preschool-age, with 16 staff supervising, across a total of 7 separate classrooms. The inspector reviewed compliance in the following areas: posting of the written disclosure statement, physical plant, capacity, food services, health reports, ratio and staffing, supervision, handwashing, daily health screenings, staff trainings, and background checks. The Inspector reviewed (20) staff records, and (10) children immunizations to ensure that the documentation was complete and in compliance. Information gathered during the inspection determined (1) area of non-compliance with an applicable code. This violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the facility. Standard #:	22.1-289.035-B-4
Description:	Based on review, 2 of 20 staff files indicated that the religious exempt child day center did not obtain a copy of a sex offender registry check (SOR), and a search of the child abuse and neglect registry or equivalent registry (CPS) from any state in which the individual has resided in the preceding five years. Evidence - 1. On the date of inspection (01/24/2024) the following documents were not available for review: a. Out-of-state CPS check for Staff #18 (start dated was listed as 08/26/2018) b. Out-of-state SOR check for both Staff #18 and Staff #15 (start date listed as 03/07/2023). 2. On the date of inspection the sworn disclosure statements (SDS) for both staff indicated that they had lived in a previous state (outside of Virginia) within the past 5 years. SDS for Staff #15 was dated 03/01/2023, and for Staff #18 their SDS was dated 08/03/2023.
Plan of Correction:	A request for a CPS check and/or SOR will be obtained for the applicable staff person. Once obtained, these findings will be shared with the Licensing Inspector for review.
