The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced complaint inspection in response to a complaint that was received by the licensing department on 12/08/2019 regarding rest areas and the home's policies. The inspection was initiated on 01/09/19 and completed on 01/09/19. On 01/09/19, the inspector was on site from 2:14pm to 4:35pm. Interviews with staff were completed, observations were made in the center, and documentation was reviewed.

The preponderance of the evidence gathered during the investigation does not support the allegation; therefore, the complaint is determined to be not valid. Though not a part of the original complaint, there were violations found during the inspection. See the violation notice for more details.

If you have any questions about this inspection, please contact the licensing inspector at (804) 662-9038.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-870-C
Complaint related: No
Description: Based on observation and interviews, the provider did not ensure to schedule snacks or meals so there is a period of at least 1-1/2 hours, but no more than three hours, between each meal or snack unless there is a scheduled rest or sleep period for children between the meals and snacks. Evidence: The inspector arrived at the center at 2:14pm. The provider informed the inspector that the three preschool age children in care ate breakfast at 8:30am and had a morning snack at 10:30am. The provider also stated that the children were about to eat lunch, the pizza was in the oven and the children would nap after lunch. The inspector observed two of the three preschool children eating lunch at 2:39pm and one child ate lunch at 2:54pm. The preschool aged children in care had 4 hours and 9 minutes to 4 hours and 24 minutes between meals.

Plan of Correction: Ensure schedule was changed and fed every 3 hours.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-510-D
Complaint related: No
Description: Based on observation, the provider did not ensure that rest mats had at least one inch of cushioning. Evidence: The inspector observed a total of three children resting on mats. Two children were resting on mats that had about a half inch of cushioning and one child was resting on a mat that had the required one inch of cushioning. The provider also had extra mats that had at least one inch of cushioning.

Plan of Correction: Threw away the old mats, and only have the new ones.

A compliance history is in no way a rating for a facility.

The online compliance history includes only information after July 1, 2003. In addition, the online compliance history includes information regarding adverse actions that may be the subject of a pending appeal. An adverse action is not final until a provider has exhausted or waived all due process rights. For compliance history prior to July 1, 2003, or information regarding the status of pending adverse actions, please contact the Licensing Inspector listed in the facility's information. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not responsible for any errors in or omissions from the compliance history information.

Virginia Quality is a voluntary quality rating and improvement system for early care and education facilities serving children ages birth through pre-K. Eligible child care facilities must be fully licensed, licensed exempt and a VDSS subsidy vendor, or a voluntary registered day home and a VDSS subsidy vendor. Only programs enrolled in Virginia Quality will display a rating. Virginia Quality contact information for your region is available at the following link Regional Contacts.
