An in-person, annual code compliance inspection was initiated and concluded by a representative from the VDOE, Office of Child Care Health and Safety (Fairfax) on 03/20/2024, between the hours of 9:30 am through 1 pm. There were 53 preschool-age children present, with 10 staff supervising, across a total of 5 classrooms. The inspector reviewed compliance in the following areas: posting of the written disclosure statement, qualifications, physical plant, capacity, food services, health reports, ratio and staffing, supervision, handwashing, daily health screenings, staff trainings, and background checks. The Inspector reviewed (10) ten staff records and (5) five children immunization records to ensure that the documentation was complete and in compliance.
Information gathered during the inspection determined (2) two areas of non-compliance with applicable code sections. These violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

Standard #: 22.1-289.031-B-5 Description: Based on observation, an area on the premises, accessible to the children, was not free of possible harm.
Evidence -
1. On the date of inspection (03/20/2024), on playground one fence post was missing its fence cap; thus exposing a sharp metal edge.
2. Preschool-age children were using this playground with accessibility to this fence post.Plan of Correction: Top of post will be taped, cap will be replaced.
Standard #: 22.1-289.031-B-6 Description: Based on review, 1 of 10 staff files indicated that not all staff completed their training on child abuse and neglect recognition.
Evidence -
1. On the date of inspection (03/20/2024), a certificate for the child abuse and neglect training was not available for review for Staff #3.
2. This finding was confirmed on the date of inspection by the Center Director.Plan of Correction: Staff #3 will complete this training.
