Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia. An initial inspection was initiated on October 14, 2020 and concluded on October 16, 2020. The provider was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were three children present totaling nine points which included resident children . The inspector emailed the provider a list of items required to complete the inspection. The inspector completed a virtual tour of the home and reviewed emergency supplies and equipment, nutrition, the physical environment, administration, preventing the spread of disease, medication administration and nutrition documentation submitted by the family day home to ensure documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility. The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs. This inspection will be reviewed with the Licensing Administrator.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-770
Description: Based on a virtual inspection, the applicant did not ensure that there was a working portable battery-operated weather band radio.

Evidence: The applicant confirmed that the battery-operated radio in the family day home was not a weather band radio.

Plan of Correction: The weather band radio has been purchased and pictures were provided.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-280
Description: Based on a virtual inspection of the family day home, the applicant did not ensure that potentially poisonous substances were stored in areas inaccessible to children.

Evidence: The provider confirmed that there was an aersol can of air freshner on the toilet tank in the restroom to be used by the children in care.

Plan of Correction: The provider corrected this during the inspection. The provider states that no further air freshners will be left unlocked in the bathroom.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-320-G
Description: Based on a virtual inspection, the applicant did not ensure that wood burning stoves and fireplaces and associated chimneys shall be inspected annually by a knowledgeable inspector to verify that the devices are properly installed, maintained, and cleaned as needed. Documentation of the inspection and cleaning shall be maintained by the provider.

Evidence: The applicant confirmed that there was no documentation of a chimney inspection.

Plan of Correction: Provider is working on scheduling a chimney inspection.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-320-I
Description: Based on a virtual inspection, the applicant did not ensure that there was a fire extinguisher in the home.

Evidence: The applicant confirmed that there was not a fire extinguisher in the family day home.

Plan of Correction: The fire extinguisher was purchased and pictures were provided.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-330-A
Description: Based on a virtual inspection, the applicant did not ensure that there was a landline telephone, excluding a cordless or cell phone, shall be available, operable, and accessible during the family day home's hours of operation. An operable landline telephone is one that does not require electricity to operate. Cordless or cell phones may be used in addition to the landline telephone.

Evidence: The applicant confirmed that the landline phone in the home was a cordless phone.

Plan of Correction: A corded phone will be purchased.
