Technical Assistance:
Written information has been emailed regarding legislative changes effective July 1, 2020.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on 12/11/2020 and completed on 12/17/2020. The provider was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 9 children present with 2 caregivers. The inspector emailed the provider a list of items required to complete the inspection. The inspector reviewed 2 caregiver records and 2 children's records submitted by the provider to ensure documentation was complete.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards and a violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the provider.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for child Care Programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-690-E
Description: Based on observation and interview, the provider failed to ensure that soiled disposable diapers and wipes shall be disposed of in a leak-proof or plastic-lined storage system that is either foot operated or used in such a way that neither the caregiver's hand nor the soiled diaper or wipe touches the exterior surface of the storage system during disposal.

Evidence:
1. The trash can used for disposal of diapers did not have any type of foot mechisim to open and close the lid during disposal of diapers.
a. The lid was of a type that required caregivers to use their hands to open/ pull off and replace after use.
2. The provider stated this was the trash can used for disposal of diapers.

Plan of Correction: A new step down diaper pail, this is hands free, has been ordered - with a delivery date of 12/21/2020.
