Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 5/7/2021 and concluded on 5/7/2021. The provider was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 9 children present and 3 staff. The inspector emailed the provider a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 2 children?s records and 2 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 63.2-1720.1-B-2
Description: Based on record review and interview, the provider did not obtain the results of the fingerprint based background check prior to each staff member's first day of employment.

Evidence:
Staff#2 has a date of hire of 3/29/21. The results of the fingerprint based background check for staff#2 were not received until 4/8/2021.

Plan of Correction: I will ensure that fingerprint results are obtained prior to each staff member's first day of employment. I would like to explain the circumstances about this violation. One of my assistants quit suddenly and I was in the necessity to hire someone else. The person that I hired was working in another daycare and she had the Fingerprints and background checks for the other daycare, for me it was a proof that she was eligible for the work and one of her reference letters was submitted from her ex-employer, the same that conducted the fingerprint checks. The same week that she started working for me she did the fingerprint.

Description: Based on record review and interview, the provider did not obtain a sex offender registry check from a state in which the applicant has resided in the preceding five years prior to employment.

Evidence:
Staff#1's sex offender results were obtained on 4/5/2021. The staff member's sex offender results were obtained after their employment date of 4/1/2021.

Plan of Correction: I will ensure that background check results are obtained prior to each staff member's first day of employment.
