Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review and a virtual tour of the program.

A renewal inspection was initiated and concluded on 7/20/2021. The provider was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 6 children present, ranging in ages from 1 years old to 5 years old, with 3 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 2 child records and 3 staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Please contact me if you have any questions at Stacy.Doyle@doe.virginia.gov or 571-835-0386.

Violations:
Standard #: 63.2-1720.1-B-4
Description: Based on review of caregiver records, the center did not obtain a copy of the results of a sex offender registry check (prior to the 1st day of hiring), and a search of the child abuse and neglect (request by the end of the 30th day of employment) from any state in which the individual has resided in the preceding five years.
Evidence:
1. Caregiver #2 (Date of hire 4/19/2021) and Caregiver #3 (Date of hire 1/2021) both had a Maryland (MD) address in the last 5 years and the provider did not obtain the sex offender results for MD until 6/08/2021 and did not send for the search of the child abuse and neglect until 6/23/2021.

Plan of Correction: I will make sure I receive the results for the sex offender before hiring in the future and will make sure I send the out of state search of child abuse and neglect for other states before the end of the 30th day of employment.
