Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on June 15, 2022 from approximately 8:25 am to 9:35 am. There were 4 children in attendance and a total of 3 staff present. 3 staff records and 4 children?s records were reviewed. All areas of the home were observed and areas where the children are cared for were inspected.

Interviews were held with the provider and caregivers throughout the inspection. The inspector interacted with children in care when appropriate. The designated areas for childcare were deemed appropriate and are equipped with age appropriate toys to meet the needs of the children. Children were observed singing and dancing to music and eating breakfast.

The license and current inspection were posted as well as the drill log. Evacuation drills were conducted monthly. The most recent was on 05/27/22. Shelter in place drill conducted two times with the most recent on 05/27/22.

The menu was posted. Breakfast consisted of cereal, milk, and bananas.

Per the provider, medication is not administered, and transportation is not provided.

The center?s first aid kit was inspected and found complete. The home had a working flashlight and battery operated radio.

There were violations cited as a result of this inspection.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-730-D
Description: Based on observation, the provider did not ensure that medication for household members were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: There were several prescription and non-prescription medications in an unlocked cabinet in the kitchen.

Plan of Correction: I will make sure the cabinet with the meds is locked.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-240-A
Description: Based on observation, the provider did not ensure that areas outside of the family day home, were maintained in a clean, safe, and operable condition. Evidence: Lattice under deck was warped and pulled away from the post, cracked, and had exposed nails.

Description: Based on observation, the provider did not ensure that potentially poisonous substances such as cleaning agents and disinfectants were inaccessible to children. Evidence: 1) There was a bottle of bleach water and a container of Clorox wipes on top of the children?s cubbies. 2) There was a spray bottle of glass cleaner, a spray bottle of ?Grease Lightening?, and a bottle of ?Cerama Bright?, labeled ?keep out of reach of children? and ?warning?, in an unlocked cabinet under the sink.

Plan of Correction: I will put Lysol wipes and bottled sanitizer up higher.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-290
Description: Based on observation, the provider did not ensure that sharp kitchen utensils and other sharp objects were inaccessible to children. Evidence: There was a knife block on the counter with four sharp knives in it.

Plan of Correction: Knives in holder on counter will be put in cabinet during business hours.
