Comments:
An unannounced inspection was conducted on 6/23/2022.
Inspection began, 9:40 am and ended 11:55 am.
There were nine children in care totaling 16 points with two caregivers.
Upon arrival the children were sitting in the living room on the floor. One child was doing school ready activities. The children then played with the available toys. They went outside and played on the outdoor pay equipment.
Five children, three staff and one household member records were reviewed.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-830-A
Description: Based on record and documentation review the provider failed to ensure the emergency evacuation procedures are practiced monthly with all caregivers and children in care.
Evidence:
The only fire drill practiced and documented for 2022 was conducted in January.

Plan of Correction: The provider will conduct monthly fire drills and document them.
Will also ensure that all emergency drills are conducted according to the standards.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-140-B-3
Description: Based on review of records and interviews the provider failed to ensure that all substitutes have a current certification in CPR.
Evidence:
Staff #3 is listed as a substitute. Staff #3 was not able to locate her current certification in CPR.

Plan of Correction: Provider stated that she will have the staff enroll in a class.

Description: Based on review of records and interviews the provider failed to ensure that all substitutes have a current certification in first aid.
Evidence:
Staff #3 is listed as a substitute. Staff #3 was not able to locate her current certification in first aid.

Plan of Correction: Provider stated that she will have the staff enroll in a class.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-260-C
Description: Based on observation the provider failed to ensure that the portable wading pool when not in use during the family day home's hours of operation, be emptied, sanitized and stored in a position to keep then clean and dry.
Evidence:
Upon arrival to the family day home at 9:40 am, in the yard next to the porch, was wading pool with water. Interviews reveled that the children used the wading pool the previous day and the water was being drained the next day.

Plan of Correction: The drain hole on the pool is small and it takes it awhile to drain out.
Will make sure the wading pool is emptied the day it is used.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-280
Description: Based on observation the provider failed to ensure that all potentially poisonous, material and supplies are stored away form areas accessible to children.
Evidence:
Located on a shelf beside the bathtub was a bottle and a tube of Calamine lotion and Whip It stain remover, not locked. This was accessible to the children.

Plan of Correction: Corrected during inspection. Will make sure all hazardous substance are always out of the reach of children or locked.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-500-F
Description: Based on observation and interviews the provider failed to ensure that trampolines are not used during the hours children are in care.
Evidence:
Located in the living room is a work out trampoline. Staff stated that the children use this trampoline.

Plan of Correction: Children are not allowed to play on the trampoline. The trampoline will be removed.
