Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 8/29/22 from 11:00am - 12:00pm. At the time of the inspection there were eight children in care, ages one year old to five years old (23 points) with two caregivers present. Records were reviewed for five children and two caregivers. Children were observed participating in various activities. There was no medication at the family day home currently. Emergency plan and emergency supplies were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined noncompliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program, and were discussed with the provider during the exit interview.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-60-A
Description: Based on a review of five child records, it was determined that the provider did not ensure that an up-to-date record is maintained at the family day home for each enrolled child.

Evidence:
1. The record for child #2 did not indicate whether or not the child previously attended childcare previously.
2. The record for child #3 did not contain a second emergency contact.
3. The record for child #4 did not contain a second emergency contact and did not indicate whether or not the child previously attended childcare previously.
4. Caregiver #1 confirmed the records listed above did not contain all of the required information.

Plan of Correction: The provider responded: The parents of each child will be asked to provide the missing information.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-350-E
Description: Based on observation, it was determined that the provider did not ensure that hot water at taps available to children shall be maintained within a range of 105?F to 120?F.

Evidence:
1. The temperature of the hot water in the bathroom used by the children to wash their hands was 125.4.
2. Caregiver #1 confirmed that the water at taps available to children was not maintained within a range of 105?F to 120?F.

Plan of Correction: The provider responded: The hot water heater will be adjusted so that the required hot water temperature is maintained.
