Comments:
A initial inspection was conducted on January 26, 2023. There were six children present with three caregivers supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. Record information was reviewed for provider, two assistants and three household members. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-800-A
Description: Based on interview, provider did not ensure there is a written emergency preparedness and response plan with required components.

Evidence: Provider stated she did not have a written emergency preparedness and response plan as required by the standards.

Plan of Correction: Not available online. Contact Inspector for more information.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-880
Description: Based on interview and review, provider did not ensure when meals or snacks are served that the most recent, age-appropriate USDA requirements are followed.

Evidence: Provider stated she will provide snacks for the children. The menu posted showed one food component and water was served at each snack time. Two food components should be offered to meet USDA requirements.

Plan of Correction: Not available online. Contact Inspector for more information.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-940-A
Description: Based on review, provider did not ensure temperatures are maintained at or below 40 degrees Fahrenheit in the refrigerator and at or below 0 degrees Fahrenheit in the freezer compartments.

Evidence: The door thermometer for the freezer read -15 degrees Celsius/5 degree Fahrenheit and the refrigerator read 7 degree Celsius/44.6 degrees Fahrenheit.

Plan of Correction: Not available online. Contact Inspector for more information.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-260-B
Description: Based on observation, provider did not ensure there is a nonclimbable barrier preventing access to a drowning hazard that is located within 30 feet of the outdoor play area.

Evidence: The outdoor play area is within 30 feet of an inground swimming pool. The gate was climbable as there were diagonal slats that would allow a child to potentially climb the fence.

Plan of Correction: Not available online. Contact Inspector for more information.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-430-C
Description: Based on observation, provider did not ensure children over the age of two shall not have access to stairs with three or more risers that do not have protective barriers or guardrails on each side.

Evidence: There are steps with three risers leading from the main home into the large childcare room. There are not protective barriers or guardrails on either side of the steps.

Plan of Correction: Not available online. Contact Inspector for more information.
