An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 1/2/23. The provider was present with 3 children. A total of 6 points. Observed afternoon snack and activity time. The children had oranges for snack and for lunch they had turkey, bread and salad. The children were coloring and writing names and shapes with the provider. Discussed ways to keep attendance with the provider as well as the different emergency drills the provider needs to conduct during the year. Interaction between the provider and children observed during the inspection. Diaper changing was also discussed. A violation notice was given to the provider with this inspection summary.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-830-B
Description: Based on the review of records the provider failed to conduct shelter in place drills in the last year.
Evidence: Based on the review of records and interview with the provider, the provider has not conducted any shelter in place practices in the last licensing year.

Plan of Correction: I did not know I had to have shelter in place drills, but I will make sure I have two a year now.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-920
Description: Based on observation during the inspection , the provider fails to have a menu posted.
Evidence: Based on the interview with the provider she writes down what she feeds the children every night after the children leave. The menu is not posted for parents to see.

Plan of Correction: I will make sure I post my menu

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-50-A
Description: Based on the review of attendance, the provider does not have attendance for any day other than the date of the inspection.
Evidence: Based on the review of the attendance records, the provider stated that she throws out the attendance sheets every Friday. She did not realize that she needed to keep them. The attendance sheet for this week only has children listed for the Wednesday, not the Monday and Tuesday of this week.

Plan of Correction: I understand now that I need to keep the attendance paperwork and I will not throw the paperwork away.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-60-B
Description: Based on the review of children's records the provider failed to get some of the required information.
Evidence: Based on the review of 3 children's files the provider failed to get the physical form for child 1.

Plan of Correction: I will ask for the physical, the child is leaving next week.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-70-A
Description: The provider failed to give parents some information needed before the first day of attendance.
Evidence: Based on the review of 3 children's files, the provider failed to give the parents of child 2 the following information, information for parents, emergency preparedness plan information and liability insurance information.

Plan of Correction: I will make sure I fill these forms out and give them to the parents.
