Technical Assistance:
1. Stationary outdoor playground equipment shall be placed at least six feet from the perimeter of other play structures or obstacles ( which include fences). Refer to standard 500C
2. Make sure to document in a child's record any injury or accident sustained by a child while in your family day home that requires first aid treatment. Refer to standard 840A;
3. Make sure you continue to cut grapes into pieces no larger than 1/2 inch in diameter if served to children 16 months to 4 years of age. Grapes should not be served to infants.
4. Consultation provided on making sure hanging cords/ropes/string is not in reach of children

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today with the provider, who was present with an assistant and six children initially with a seventh child arriving at the beginning of the inspection. The inspection took place form 11:40 am to 1:20 pm. The ages of the children present were 7 months, 14 months, 1, 2, 3 and 2-4 year old children for a total of 19 points.
The Licensing Inspectors was able to observe lunch being served which consisted of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, apples, grapes, water/milk.
Three children and two household member's files were reviewed today. The areas of non compliance is outlined on the violation notice.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-920
Description: Based on observation and interview, it was determined that there was no written menu for the current one-week period. Interview revealed that the provider lets the parents know what the child ate at the end of the day.

Description: Based on observation and interview, it was determined that there was no written record of children in attendance.

Description: Based on observation, it was determined that the family day home was not maintained in a safe condition.
Evidence:
1. The Licensing Inspectors (LI) observed a handing cord to a clock in reach of children that could be pulled down on a child. The cord was located between a crib and the diaper changing area.
2. On the outside playground, the ground covering was exposed and presented a tripping hazard.

Evidence:
The LI observed a disinfectant wipes on a shelf where the children's coats are stored. The wipes were in reach of children.

Description: Based on observation and interview, it was determined that the two diapering areas were not sanitized after each use. The provider uses a bleach water solution. The solution used in the two diapering areas were not made fresh today but was made yesterday, therefore it is not considered a proper sanitizing agent.
