Today we reviewed the precautions being taken to ensure that children in care do not have access to the hot tub on premises. Please ensure that all of the precautions are consistently in place, to include: Hot Tub Cover is closed and secured at all times when children are in care; outdoor fencing separating the hot tub from the outdoor play area remains closed and secured from the inside; the door to the bedroom where the outdoor patio is accessed remains secured / locked when children are in care; the door leading from the home to the outdoor patio where the hot tub is located remains locked when children are in care.

Children's hands should be washed if, at any time, they touch pets or animals, animal enclosures or animals' equipment. The standards only address children's access to birds of the parrot family / psittacine birds. However, Quail may also carry germs, as do all pets, and handwashing is imperative for the health of children in care.

Comments:
A renewal inspection was initiated and concluded on 2/13/2023. There were 2 children present with 2 caregivers supervising. The point total was 4. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 2 child records and 2 staff records were reviewed. The inspection started at 11:30 am and concluded at 1:45 pm.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-60-B
Description: Based on a review of records and interview, the licensee did not ensure that each enrolled child's record contained all of the required information.

Evidence:
Two children's records were reviewed during the inspection.
The record for child #2 did not contain information on chronic physical problems, pertinent development information and any special accommodations need nor did it contain information regarding allergies and intolerance to food, medication or other substances and actions to take in an emergency situation.
The spaces provided for this information were left blank.
The licensee acknowledged that this information had not been completed in the child's record.

Plan of Correction: The licensee stated that she would obtain this information and update child #2's record the same evening when the child is picked up from care.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-350-E
Description: Based on temperatures taken with a digital thermometer during the inspection, the licensee did not ensure that hot water at taps available to children shall be maintained within a range of 105 degrees Fahrenheit to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

Evidence:
The hot water at the the hand washing sink in the restroom used by children in care measured 127 Degrees Fahrenheit during the inspection.

Plan of Correction: The licensee stated that she would have the adjustment made to the hot water heater by the weekend to ensure it is no hotter than 120degrees Fahrenheit.
Until then, a caregiver will adjust the water temperature and supervise children using the sink to ensure the water is not too hot.
