Comments:
The inspection was initiated on February 21, 2023 and concluded February 21, 2023. There were 3 children present with 1 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, personnel, physical health of caregivers, caregiver training, physical equipment/ environment, care of children, preventing spread of disease, emergencies and nutrition. A total of 3 child records, 1 provider record, and 1 family member record was reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program

Violations:
Standard #: 22.1-289.058
Description: Based on observation and provider interview the licensee did not ensure that each building that houses a child day program that is licensed, that serves preschool-age children, shall be equipped with at least one carbon monoxide detector.

Evidence: The provider confirmed there was no carbon monoxide detector.

Plan of Correction: I told the inspector that I did have
a carbon monoxide detector but
didn't remember which one of the
four was the correct one.
Once I asked my husband he
said it was upstairs. My inspector
did not go upstairs due to my
husband being sick.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-530-A
Description: Based on observation and provider interview, the licensee did not ensure cots being used for sleeping or napping by children other than infants shall have linens consisting of a top cover and a bottom cover or a one-piece covering that is open on three edges.

Evidence: The provider confirmed that 2 of the 3 children were observed resting on a mat with no bottom cover or top cover.

Plan of Correction: I showed my inspector the clean
covers I use on the mats, but
it is correct that the covers were
not on the mats at the time.
We will continue to cover mats.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-690-E
Description: Based on observation and provider interview the licensee did not ensure that soiled disposable diapers and wipes shall be disposed of in a leak-proof or plastic lined storage system that is either foot operated or used in such a way that neither the caregiver?s hand nor the soiled diaper or wipe touches the exterior surface of the storage system during disposal.

Evidence: A trash can without a lid was observed in the designated space where children were observed playing and there were 2 soiled diapers observed. The diapers were not disposed of as required.

Plan of Correction: I will continue to use the required
trash can in my daycare. I only
disposed of diapers in the
closest trash can when I was
changing diapers and my
inspector was ringing my bell.
I do have the correct trash can in
my daycare.

Standard #: 8VAC20-820-120-E-2
Description: Based on observation and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure the license and results of the most recent inspection and any other documents required by the Superintendent were posted in a conspicuous place on the licensed premises.

Evidence: The most recent inspection results dated February 20, 2022 were not posted in a conspicuous place.

Plan of Correction: I told my inspector that I
believe the inspection papers
could have fallen behind the shelf
because this has happened
before. I received a violation
because it was not on my
bulletin board when the
inspection occurred. It was
originally posted.
