Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-730-D
Description: Based on observation and interview, the provider did not ensure medications, including the medications for household members, were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence:

Two bottles of prescription medications were observed unlocked on the nightstand in two bedrooms on the second floor. The provider acknowledged the medications were unlocked and stated children do not use the second level of the home. All medications, except those prescriptions designated otherwise by a written physician?s order are required to be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Plan of Correction: Per the provider: I will either lock the doors to the bedrooms or purchase a lock box for the medications.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-240-A
Description: Based on observation, the provider did not ensure areas and furnishing of the family day home, inside and outside, were maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition.

Evidence:

1. On the deck, used by children in care, small trees/shrubs had grown through the space between the floor planks. The trees/shrubs had been cut however jagged stalks approximately an inch to two inches remained sticking above the floor surface posing a rick of tripping or snagging the skin of a child.
2. In the room used for childcare, around the fireplace, peeling paint was observed. The prrling paint was within reach to children in care.

Plan of Correction: Per the provider: My husband will cut the remaining limbs and remove them from the deck floor. The Licensing inspector received a photo on 02/28/2023 showing the stalks had been removed.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-320-B
Description: Based on observation, the provider did not ensure child-resistant protective covers were installed in all unused electrical outlets and surge protectors accessible to children under five years of age.

Evidence:

Three unused electrical outlets in a surge protector did not have protective covers installed. The surge protector was in the opening under the desk in the childcare room accessible to children in care.

Plan of Correction: Per the provider: I will fill the electrical outlets in with covers today.
