Comments:
A monitoring inspection was conducted on March 7, 2023. There were ten children present with two staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of five child records and two staff records were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-730-D
Description: Based on observation, provider did not ensure medication is kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence: A prescription medication was stored in an unlocked cabinet over the counter in the childcare room.

Plan of Correction: The medication will be returned to the parent today. In the future, all medications will be kept in a locked box.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-210-A
Description: Based on review and interview, provider did not ensure 1 of 2 caregivers complete a minimum of sixteen clock hours of training annually.

Evidence: The record for caregiver #2 (start date 2/28/2022) did not have any documentation of annual training since beginning employment. Provider confirmed training had not been completed.

Plan of Correction: Provider will be intentional about ensuring all caregivers complete monthly trainings to meet annual training requirement.
