22.1 BACKGROUND CHECKS; CARBON MONOXIDE

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm. There was one child in care being supervised by the provider for a total of four points. The child was observed eating and watching television. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of one child record and one staff record was reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-750-B
Description: Based on observation of the diaper area it was determined that not all topical skin products were inaccessible to children. Evidence: A container of petroleum jelly and lotion was observed on an open lower shelf of the changing table which was accessible to children.

Plan of Correction: The items were made inaccessible to children during the inspection.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-830-A
Description: Based on observation and interview with the provider it was determined that emergency evacuation drills were not conducted monthly. Evidence: There have been no emergency evacuation drills conducted for 2023.

Plan of Correction: The provider will conduct emergency evacuation drills monthly.

Standard #: 8VAC20-820-120-E-6
Description: Based on observation and interview it was determined that special order notices issued by the department were not posted in a prominent place at each public entrance. Evidence: The Special Order issued to the provider on 05/11/2023 was not posted in the family day home as required.

Plan of Correction: The Special Order will be printed and posted in a prominent place at the entrance for parents.
