Technical Assistance:
Provided consultation on standard:
1) 480A: the family day home shall provide a sufficient quantity and variety of play materials and equipment that shall be readily accessible to children. Best practices state that having only one type of toy available at a time does not provide children with choices or a richness in play experience and toys in closets are not readily available.
2) 800B: the provider shall review the emergency (preparedness) plan at least annually and update the plan as needed. The provider shall document in writing each review and update of the emergency plan.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 10:00 - 11:00 am with the provider and her two assistants. There were ten children, ranging from ten months to five years of age, for a total of 25 points. Children were observed completing kindergarten prep work at the table, playing with duplos, and participating in exercise/movement activities. Four child records, four caregiver/household member records, the emergency drill log, daily attendance, menu and required posted information were all reviewed. The provider is not currently certified in Medication Administration Training (MAT) and cannot administer medication to children in care.
