Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 7/19/23 from 9:00am to 10:30am with the provider who was present with one assistant. There were nine children in care, ranging in age from five-months to three-years-old, for a total of 23 points. Older children were observed playing with blocks, cars, and baby dolls; cleaning up; coloring; and having free play. Infants were observed napping, having a bottle, and having their diaper changed. Three child records, the provider and assistant records, and one household member record were reviewed. The provider and assistant have current certification in CPR and First Aid. The provider reported that there were no medications on-site, but they do have current certification in Medication Administration Training (MAT). The emergency drill log, attendance, and menu were also reviewed. If you have questions regarding this inspection, please contact the Licensing Inspector, Laura Brindle, at laura.brindle@doe.virginia.gov or 540-905-2062.

Please complete the "Plan of Correction" and "Date to be Corrected" areas on the Violation Notice for the violation cited and return to me by close of business on 7/26/23. Plans of correction should include steps to correct the noncompliance with the standard, and measures to prevent the noncompliance from occurring again.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-560-A
Description: Based on observation and interview, the provider did not ensure that sleeping infants were monitored: within sight and hearing of a caregiver; or by in-person observation of each sleeping infant at least once every 15 minutes; or by using a baby monitor. Evidence: The Licensing Inspector (LI) arrived at approximately 9:00am on 7/19/23. The provider reported that a 12-month-old was sleeping behind a closed door. At approximately 9:30am the LI asked the provider how often they check on infants who are sleeping behind a closed door and the provider reported that they check on sleeping infants at least every 30 minutes.

Plan of Correction: We usually checked on infants sleeping every 20-30 minutes, but Lina was distracted by the interview. Provider will be using a baby monitor to check on sleeping infants in addition to our normal check in.
