Comments:
The renewal inspection was initiated on July 19, 2023 and concluded on July 24, 2023
There were 8 children present with 2 caregivers including a volunteer present. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, personnel, household members, physical health of caregivers and household members, physical equipment and environment, care of children, prevention of diseases, and emergencies, nutrition, and background checks. A total of 4 children's records and 1 caregiver, and 1 assistant records were reviewed during this inspection. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-280
Description: Based on observations and photographs, the provider did not ensure all potentially poisonous substance, materials, and supplies, cleaning agents, and disinfectants are stored away from food in areas inaccessible to children.

Evidence: The following observations were completed by the inspector of poisonous materials with the labels "keep out of reach of children" "warning" and "caution".
1. In the kitchen area, there was a container of pain receiver located on the countertop.
2. In the laundry room, there two packets of laundry flings observed on top of the machine and on the floor in area occupied by the children in care.
3. In the Infant/Toddler area in the home, there was a cabinet unlocked containing antibacterial hand soap, furniture polish, glass cleaner.
4. In the bathroom, there was first aid antiseptic agent on the sink countertop.
5. Photographs taken of each of the areas observed during the inspection.

Plan of Correction: The caregiver will ensure cabinets are locked and all medications are locked and out of reach of children.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-290
Description: Based on observation and photograph, the provider did not ensure all sharp kitchen utensils and other sharp objects shall be inaccessible to children unless being used by the caregiver.

Evidence:
The kitchen area was open with a knife block on the countertop holding multiple knives which was accessible to the children in care.

Plan of Correction: Caregiver used for cooking. The caregiver will ensure all sharp objects are placed in cabinet after use while cooking.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-460-C
Description: Based on observation, review of documentation, and interview, the provider did not ensure all dogs or cats are vaccinated for rabies.


Evidence:
1. There was observation of another dog at the family day home during the inspection.
2. A review of documentation revealed rabies shots was last done on 01/03/22.
3. Interview with caregiver confirmed documentation provided for review during the inspection.
