Technical Assistance:
Discussed clarifying medication policy to remove names of staff who are listed as certified to administer medication, but who are not. The family day home does not currently administer medication.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 11:30am-12:15pm. There were 4 children and 2 caregivers. At the beginning of the inspection 4 children were observed with 1 caregiver returning from a walking trip. The home, 2 caregiver records, 4 children?s records, evacuation drills, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. There were no medications on site today. Children were observed walking with a caregiver back to the family day home and preparing for lunch. Handwashing procedures were also observed. There was an assortment of age appropriate materials for children. The home was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-750-A
Description: Based on observation, the use of topical skin products did not meet all requirements.
Evidence:
Two containers of bug repellant, two containers of sunscreen, and one .container of diaper ointment were not labeled with the child's name.

Plan of Correction: All topical ointments have been labeled.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-60-B
Description: Based on record review, children's records did not contain all required information.
Evidence:
Child 4's record did not contain the name, address, and pone number of two persons to contact in an emergency if the parents cannot be reached.

Plan of Correction: 2 full emergency contacts have been included in the Child 4's record.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-150-D-1
Description: Based on observation and record review, caregivers alone with children did not have a current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), as appropriate to the age of the children in care, from the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, American Safety and Health Institute, or National Safety Council, or current CPR certification issued within the past two years.
Evidence:
At the beginning of the inspection Caregiver 2 was observed walking the children back to the family day home. Caregiver 2's record did not contain documentation of certification in CPR.

Plan of Correction: Caregiver 2 has obtained CPR certification.

Description: Based on observation and record review, a caregiver who was alone with children did not have a current certification in first aid from the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, American Safety and Health Institute, or National Safety Council, or current first aid certification issued within the past three years by a community college, a hospital, a rescue squad, or a fire department.
Evidence:
At the beginning of the inspection Caregiver 2 was observed walking the children back to the family day home. Caregiver 2's record did not contain documentation of certification in first aid.
