Technical Assistance:
Provided information for renewing application in 2024. The Renewal application is online at childcare.virginia.gov/providers.

Discussed installing smoke alarms on each level of the home as required for Fairfax County.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted September 19, 2023 between 12:40pm and 2:30pm. There were 2 children present with one (1) caregiver supervising for a total of 8 points within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed sleeping, and interacting with the provider. Positive interactions were observed during this inspection. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programing,evacuation drill logs, menu, first aid supplies, attendance, child and caregiver records, household member records, and emergency procedures. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the programs. Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-770
Description: Based on observation and interview, there was not a working portable battery-operated weather band radio, and extra batteries kept in a designated area and available at all times.
Evidence:
1. The radio would not work. Batteries inside the portable ratio but radio would not turn on.
2. There were no extra batteries available.
3. The provider acknowledged she would need to recharge the batteries or replace them.

Plan of Correction: I will get new batteries for the radio and keep extra batteries too.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-920
Description: Based on observation and interview with the provider, the menu for the current week was not given to the parents or posted or placed in an area accessible to parents.
Evidence:
1. The menu was not posted.
2. The Provider acknowledged she did not have a menu for the week and planned the food each morning.
REPEAT VIOLATION

Plan of Correction: I will start preparing a weekly menu and will post the menu.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-50-A
Description: Based on record review and interview, the family day home did not keep a written record of children in attendance each day.
Evidence: 1. At the time of the inspection, there was not an attendance record for the day documenting the two children in attendance.
2. The provider acknowledged there was not an attendance record of children in attendance.

Plan of Correction: I will make a written attendance sheet each day and maintain the records.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-90-A
Description: Based on record review, the provider did not obtain documentation that the child has been adequately immunized before the child attended the family day home.
Evidence:
1. Child #1 did not have an immunization record on file. Child's start date was 9/18/23.

Repeat Violation

Plan of Correction: I will tell the parents I need the immunization record immediately.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-320-I
Description: Based on observation and interview, the provider did not have a smoke detector installed in the family day home as required by the Uniform Statewide Build Code and the Statewide Fire Prevention Code.
Evidence:
1. The smoke detector was missing from the mounting bracket in the ceiling.
2. The provider acknowledge the smoke detector had been taken down and had not been replaced.

Plan of Correction: I will have my husband install new smoke detectors this week in our home.
