Comments:
An announced initial inspection was conducted on 9/29/23 from 9:15am to 11:30am with the provider. The provider reported that one child is currently enrolled, but they were out for the day, so standards related to the care of children, supervision, and programming could not be observed. The provider record, three household member records, one child record, and two pet records were reviewed. The provider has current certification in CPR and First Aid. The provider does not intend to administer medication at this time and is aware that certification in Medication Administration Training (MAT) must be obtained in order to give medication. The provider is utilizing the entire basement of the home for the daycare and the area is neat and organized with an abundant supply of age-appropriate materials. A household walk-through was conducted to observe for any obvious hazards. The provider plans to operate Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 5:30pm. The provider will care for up to 12 children from three-months to four-years-old. Meals will be provided by the provider, and the weekly menu was reviewed. The daycares policies and emergency preparedness plan were reviewed. The first aid kit, flashlight, weather band radio, fire extinguisher, smoke detectors, and carbon monoxide detector were observed. Emergency numbers, evacuation maps, and daily schedules were posted. A conditional (6 month) license will be recommended. An unannounced follow-up inspection will be conducted within 60 days to determine compliance with standards not observed at the initial inspection. If you have questions regarding this inspection, please contact the Licensing Inspector, Laura Brindle, at laura.brindle@doe.virginia.gov or 540-905-2062.
