Technical Assistance:
Consultation provided on hot water at taps available to children shall be maintained within a range of 105 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit,

Please refer to standard 430B which prohibits accordion expansion gates and pressure mounted gates used as protective barriers at stairs openings. The gates used should be hardware mounted gates.

Comments:
An initial announced inspection was conducted with the provider from 9 am to 10:45 am. There are no children enrolled at this time, therefore many of the standards were not applied today due to no enrolled children.
The primary daycare space is located in the basement and there appears to be adequate supplies and furnishings for the ages of birth through 8 years.
The provider has no plans at the moment to transport children or to administer medication. The provider plans to take the children to the community park for outside time. The one crib onsite has a manufacturer date of April 2018 therefore it meets the Consumer Product Safety commission Standards at the time it was manufactured. The areas of non compliance are outlined on the violation notice.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-760-A-1
Description: Based on an inspection of the first aid kit and interview, it was determined that the first aid kit did not contain all of the required components.
Evidence:
The first aid kit was missing adhesive tape, a first aid manual and tweezers.

Plan of Correction: We will get the missing items in the first aid kit.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-770
Description: Based on observation and interview, it was determined that there was no battery-operated weather band radio available.

Plan of Correction: We will buy a battery operated weather band radio.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-790
Description: Based on observation and interview, it was determined that required telephone numbers were not posted in a visible area close to the telephone.
Evidence:
There were no numbers posted for local fire/police nor the responsible person for emergency backup care or the regional poison control center.

Plan of Correction: We will post the emergency numbers.

Description: Based on interview, it was determined that there was no written emergency preparedness and response plan.

Plan of Correction: We will write the evacuation plan.

Description: Based on interview, it was determined that the provider will be providing meals/snacks however there was no example of a written menu.

Plan of Correction: We will write a menu.

Description: Based on observation and interview, it was determined that there was no operable thermometer available to monitor refrigerator and freezer compartment temperatures.

Plan of Correction: We will buy a thermometer for the refrigerator and freezer.

Description: Based on observation and interview, it was determined that there was no landline telephone available.
Evidence:
The provider reported that they do not have a landline telephone available.

Plan of Correction: We will buy a landline phone.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-430-B
Description: Based on observation, it was determined that the home had a pressure mounted gate as a protective barrier at stairs openings. The standards do not allow a pressure mounted gate.

Plan of Correction: We will buy the proper gate or rearrange furniture to prevent access to stairs.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-530-I
Description: Based on observation and interview, it was determined that the crib mattress was not waterproof.
Evidence:
The crib mattress plastic covering was torn, as a result it was not waterproof.

Plan of Correction: We will replace the plastic over the crib mattress.
