Technical Assistance:
Discussed requirement for all new caregivers to complete the 10-hour Virginia Preservice Training within 90 days of employment.

After completion of the 10-hour training all caregivers will need to complete the 3-hour Virginia Health & Safety annual update training. This training is updated annually and is required to be completed each year.

Comments:
An unannounced subsidy health and safety inspection was conducted on 11/16/2023 from 10:05 am - 12:01 pm. At the time of entrance there were eight children in care with four caregivers. The ages of the children in care counted for a total of 28 points.
A licensing inspection was also conducted on this date. Both inspections combined cover subsidy health and safety regulations. Only subsidy regulations that are not covered in licensing standards are reviewed during this supplemental inspection.

One violation was found in the area of staff training. This violation is listed on the violation notice issued to the vendor.

Description: Based on record review and interview, the vendor failed to ensure that within the first 90 days of employment or service all caregivers shall complete Virginia Preservice Training for Child Care Staff sponsored by the Department of Education.

Evidence:
1. Caregiver 1, hire date 01/02/2023 lacks documentation of completion of Virginia Preservice Training.
a. The provider confirmed that caregiver 1 had not completed this training.

Plan of Correction: The provider stated that caregiver 1 would obtain this training by the end of the year.
