Technical Assistance:
Technical Assistance was given and standards regarding outdoor play were discussed and reviewed.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on December 1, 2023, from 10:20am to approximately 11:15am. There were 2 children present totaling 7 points and two staff members. The Inspector reviewed six children?s records and two staff records. The Inspectors observed staff and children?s interactions throughout the inspection. Children were observed during free play and story time. No medications are administered at the center. Emergency preparedness documents and first aid kits were observed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and a violation was documented. The violation is listed on the violation notice issued to the center and reviewed with the provider at the exit interview.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-830-A
Description: Based on record review and interview, it was determined that the provider did not ensure that the emergency evacuation procedures shall be practiced monthly with all caregivers and children in care during all shifts that children are in care.
Evidence:
1. In reviewing the evacuation log there is no documentation for the month of November 2023 that there was an emergency evacuation practice drill completed.
2. Staff #1, owner, confirmed that for the month of November, there was no emergency evacuation practice drill completed.

Plan of Correction: The provider responded with the following: Staff #1 confirmed that due to the center being closed and the holidays that the drill for November was not completed. Moving forward, Staff #1 will ensure that all drills are completed monthly and documented.
