The Family Day Home exceeded the licensed capacity at the start of the inspection. If the home is found to be over capacity again, the zoning office will be contacted.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on February 1, 2024 between the hours of approximately 10:10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. There were 8 children present with the Provider and 1 assistant for a total of 15 points. The family day home exceeded their licensed capacity until the eighth child left the family day home at approximately 10:20 a.m. The children were observed finishing a snack and engaging in free play. Positive interactions were observed during this inspection. A complete inspection of the physical plant, children, caregiver and household member records, fire drill log, menu, attendance and emergency procedures were observed during this inspection. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Standard #: 8VAC20-800-830-C
Description: Based on record review, the family day home failed to maintain documentation of emergency evacuation and shelter-in-place drills.

Evidence:
1. At the time of inspection, the family day home only had documentation of 1 of 2 shelter-in-place drills for the year of 2023.
2. At the time of inspection, the family day home did not have documentation of an emergency evacuation drill for January 2024.

Plan of Correction: Documentation of emergency evacuation and shelter-in-place drills is completed.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-40-A
Description: Based on observation, the provider did not ensure that the total number of children receiving care at any one time does not exceed the maximum licensed capacity of the home.

Evidence: The provider?s maximum licensed capacity is 7. At the start of the inspection, there were 8 children present.

Plan of Correction: One child was a visiting for a short time and a few minutes after the inspector arrived was picked up by his mother, who was waiting at the door. This take place in front of inspector.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-170-B
Description: Based on record review, the family day home failed to ensure that 1 out of 2 caregivers obtained a Tuberculosis (TB) screening that was completed within the last 30 days of the time of hire.

Evidence: Caregiver #2's (start date: 03/28/2023) TB screening was dated 09/26/2022.

Plan of Correction: Caregiver #2 is notified
