Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 2/27/24 from 11:30am to 12:30pm with the provider who was present with one assistant. There were six children in care, ranging in age from 13-months to two-years-old, for a total of 20 points. Children were observed finishing lunch, having diapers changed, washing hands, and laying down for nap. Four child records and one new assistant record were reviewed; the provider record and household member records are still current from previous inspections. The provider has current certification in CPR and First Aid. The provider reports that they are not giving medication at this time and understands that they must obtain certification in Medication Administration Training (MAT) in order to give medication if they change their policy. Lunch served was chicken stew with vegetables, strawberries and bananas, water, and milk. The emergency drill log, attendance, and menu were also reviewed. If you have questions regarding this inspection, please contact the Licensing Inspector, Laura Brindle, at laura.brindle@doe.virginia.gov or 540-905-2062.

Please complete the "Plan of Correction" and "Date to be Corrected" areas on the Violation Notice for each violation cited and return to me by close of business on 3/8/24. Plans of correction should include steps to correct the noncompliance with the standard, and measures to prevent the noncompliance from occurring again.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-900-B
Description: Based on observation, the provider did not ensure that children were not allowed to drink while lying down. Evidence: At the start of nap time, several children were given bottles or sippy cups of warm milk on their cots while they were lying down, which is a choking hazard.

Plan of Correction: Children will drink their milk before their naps.
