Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on April 9, 2024, from 11am to approximately 12pm. Present in the home were one staff member and nine children totaling 20 points. The inspector observed staff and children interactions throughout the entire inspection. Children were observed during free play, doing puzzles, and transition to lunch. Emergency preparedness documentation and first aid kits were observed. The Inspectors reviewed five children?s records, one staff, and one household members? records. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and a violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Violation was discussed with the provider at the exit interview.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-570-A
Description: Based on observation and interview, it was determined that the provider did not ensure that the caregiver does not exceed 16 points by using the following point system.
Evidence:
1. Provider had nine children in care totaling 20 points based on their age. The total points exceeded 16 point.
2. The provider confirmed that the current children in care exceeded 16 points.

Plan of Correction: The provider responded with the following: The provider agreed to take an additional child the day of the inspection on an emergency basis. The child typically is not at the center often and today was not a regular day for that child in care. Provider?s husband had to leave the home to go to work for an emergency which left her without an assistant. Provider will ensure that the center will not exceed 16 points when there is only one provider.
