Technical Assistance:
Potable Water Lead Testing Requirements
The VDOE recently distributed memos to licensed child day programs, certified preschools and religiously exempt child day centers, sharing the requirement to develop and implement a plan to test potable water pursuant to ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia. The VDOE will begin determining compliance with this statute effective January 1, 2025. The memos can be found on the VDOE child care website: www.childcare.virginia.gov.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted from 11:45am - 12:45pm with the provider and her two assistants. There were nine children in care, ranging from five months to three years of age, for a total of 23 points. Children were observed napping. Two child records and seven provider/household member records were reviewed along with the daily attendance, emergency drill log, menu and required posted information. The provider has certification in Medication Administration Training (MAT) but stated that there were no medications on site. If you have further questions about this inspection please contact Donna Liberman at 540-359-5244 or Donna.Liberman@doe.virginia.gov.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-170-A
Description: Based on review of documentation, and an interview with the provider, not all caregivers had, at the time of hire and prior to coming into contact with children, a current report of TB screening documenting the absence of tuberculosis. Evidence: the record for caregiver #3 did not contain documentation of a negative TB screening/test.

Plan of Correction: Provider has already obtained TB test, and is waiting on results.
