22VAC40-185 STAFF QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING.
22VAC40-185 SPECIAL CARE PROVISIONS AND EMERGENCIES.
An announced initial inspection was conducted on August 17, 2015 to determine compliance with licensing standards. The inspection was initiated at 10 am and concluded at 12 pm. The inspection was conducted with the owner/ program director and an additional inspector. The facility plans to provide care to children ages two years to five years. Transportation will not be provided. Measurements of the facility were made to determine capacity. The calculation indicate a capacity of 16 children. Care will be provided in two rooms plus access to a small library room. Classrooms are equipped with a variety of age appropriate equipment and supplies including materials for gross motor, art, literacy, and dramatic play. Children will provide heir own meals. Medications will not be dispensed. Standards related to supervision and program could not be determined as the facility is not yet full operational. There were no children enrolled at the time of the initial inspection. Policies and procedures are in place. The emergency preparedness plan has been reviewed by the county authorities. Coverage of First Aid and CPR training were verified. The playground area was inspected. There is no climbing equipment as there is no resilient surfacing. A conditional (6 month) license will be recommended. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-240-D-5 Description: Based on review of staff records and interview, the facility di not have at least one staff member who had obtained within the last three years instruction in performing the daily health observation of children. Evidence: The record of staff #1 and Staff #2 did not have documentation of daily health observation training. Per the owner the training had not be obtained as of yet. Plan of Correction: Per the owner: I will contact a trainer and obtain the daily health observation training immediately.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-540-C Description: Based on observations, the facility did not obtain all required items for the first aid kit. Evidence: The facilities first aid kit did not include the required scissors, two triangular bandages, and thermometer. Plan of Correction: Per the owner: I will purchase the missing items today for the first aid kit.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-C Description: Based on observation, the facility did not ensure shelter-in-place procedures/maps were posted in a location conspicuous to staff and children on each floor of each building. Evidence: The facility had procedure/maps for the evacuation route however their was no indication of procedures for the shelter-in-place. Plan of Correction: Per the owner: I will add the shelter-in-place procedures and map to the posted emergency plan on each floor of the building.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-F Description: Based on observations, the facility did not have the regional poison control center's phone number posted in a visible place at each telephone. Evidence: There was no phone number listed for the regional poison control center near at each phone. The phone numbers for A 911 or local dial number for police, fire and emergency medical services was listed. Plan of Correction: Per the owner: I will add the phone number of the regional poison control center to the emergency number list at each phone.
