22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today by the licensing inspector. The center director was present during the inspection. All required information was posted and a sample of staff and children's records were reviewed. Medication for children was checked and the playground was not inspected due to rain. Observations were done during "open time" in 7 classrooms and some but not all standards were checked today. Lunch and snack are brought from home daily. The children's art work was displayed throughout the center including a mural of Andy Warhol inspired hand prints. During "open time" the preschool children go to activity rooms of choice. During open time each room has a specific purpose such as art activities, large/small motor activities, science, and more. Staff also rotate to the various activity rooms and were observed interacting with the children. There were a total of 92 children present with 19 staff with 3 administrators on site and available to help as needed. yellow room- Children were sitting on the floor in a circle intently listening to a staff person reading Heckedy Peg, followed by "checking out" their own books to read. blue room - Children had made "monster" inkblots, were playing with bats, spiders, skeletons in a castle. There was also a pumpkin where the children could hammer in pegs. rainbow room - Children in the art room were painting, pasting, doing spider art and had also done monster inkblots. pink room - This group had been playing with playdough, made "goop", then washed hands and sat down at the tables for snack. green room - This group was excitedly engaged in motor activities. polka dot room - The children were playing with doll houses and in the dress up area. clementines - (18-24 mos) The children were finishing up snack, playing with cars and the garage and beginning to transition for carpool. liability insurance expiration 5/1/16 all staff have health observation training 10/2012 shelter in place 10/19/15 lock down drill 10/23/15 MAT training 8 staff first aid/cpr/health observation training 22 (entire staff) health inspection 10/23/15 fire inspection 3 17 15 evacuation drill 10/16/15 approximate time on site: 8:50 am - 11:55 am
